Rigby to Host House Committee Hearings
October 7, 2026
HARRISBURG – A pair of state House committees will be calling Cambria County home this month during events hosted by state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Camrbia/Somerset). Both hearings are open to the public.
This Friday, Oct. 9, the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee will hold an informational hearing beginning at 10 a.m. in Patton at the Cambria County Fire School, 292 Ott Road. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss funding and access to firefighter training, recruitment and retention efforts across the state.
“As a former volunteer fireman, I can definitely speak to the challenges faced by our volunteer fire companies,” Rigby said. “Costs associated with firefighting are rising while the number of volunteer emergency responders is falling. We’re in the midst of a critical situation that will only get worse and threaten public safety if we don’t find answers.”
Then on Thursday, Oct. 15, the House Republican Policy Committee will gather in Cresson Township at Mount Aloysius College, 7373 Admiral Peary Highway, for a hearing titled “The Impact of New DEP Requirements.”
“We’ll be examining the Department of Environmental Protection’s proposed revisions to Pennsylvania’s biosolids permitting process,” added Rigby. “The department wants to address potential farm field and groundwater pollution by implementing monitoring and tiered restrictions in wastewater treatment systems that would prevent Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) “forever” chemical contamination in biosolids which are used as fertilizer.”
Questions about this or any state government issue should be directed to Rigby’s Cresson office at 814-886-1055, his Ferndale office at 814-536-9818, or his Somerset County office at 814-509-6942.
