Local Legislators Applaud Funding for Scalp Level Project

HARRISBURG – State Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) and state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) are pleased to announce a more than $8.5 million award from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to Scalp Level Borough for financing of a wastewater project.

“Undertaking vital safety upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure is key to safeguarding public health, promoting economic growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability,” Langerholc said. “As a board member of PENNVEST, I’m pleased to see this funding support essential improvements that will modernize aging infrastructure, address environmental challenges, and ensure compliance with current standards.”

The funding, which will consist of a more than $3.3 million low-interest loan and a more than $5.1 million grant, will provide approximately 8,200 feet of new gravity sewer line to be installed for collection from residencies in the borough. The existing sewer line will be converted to a stormwater line, and 1,876 feet of new stormwater line will be constructed to accommodate the flows that will be removed from the sanitary sewer system.

“Sen. Langerholc and I are proud to have worked together to secure this much-needed funding for the borough and its residents,” Rigby added. “The existing infrastructure has outlived its usefulness and is stressed beyond capacity during extreme wet weather events.”
PENNVEST is a financing authority that provides low-cost financial assistance to address water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source pollution problems that impact public health, safety, the environment, regulatory compliance, and economic development. Its goals are to ensure all Pennsylvanians have access to clean water and support the Commonwealth’s economic development.
