Rigby Announces More Than $457,000 in Local Fire, EMS Grants

HARRISBURG - Fire and emergency response organizations in the 71st Legislative District are set to receive more than $457,000 in funding under the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program, according to state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset).

“From equipment and training to vehicles and facilities, the burdens on our incredible volunteer first responders are substantial,” said Rigby. “This state grant program helps to provide some much-needed financial support in their mission to protect our homes and communities.”

The list of grant recipients includes the following:

   • Adams Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $13,955.
   • Adams Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 - $16,322.
   • Ashville Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $16,106.  
   • Blacklick Valley Ambulance - $15,000. 
   • Cresson Area Ambulance Service - $14,903.
   • Cresson Volunteer Fire Co. - $28,322. 
   • East Hills Ambulance Association - $15,000
   • Forest Hills Area Ambulance Association - $15,000.
   • Gallitzin Fire Co. No. 1 - $16,322.
   • Loretto Borough Fire Department - $13,309.
   • Oakland Volunteer Fire Co. - $29,891.
   • Paint Borough Volunteer Fire Department - $28,322.
   • Portage Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $40,322.
   • Reade Township Volunteer Fire Co. - $12,233.
   • Richland Township Volunteer Fireman Department - $28,322.
   • Riverside Volunteer Fire Co. - $12,448.
   • Riverside Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance - $15,000.
   • South Fork Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $13,955.
   • Summerhill Township Volunteer Fire Co. - $14,170.
   • West Hills Regional Fire Department - $52,322
   • West Hills Regional Fire Department EMS - $15,000.
   • Windber Fire Co. No. 1 - $16,322.
   • Windber Fire Co. EMS - $15,000.

The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature which is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.

All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding. Companies must file a grant agreement with OSFC to receive their grants.
