Rigby Says 2024-25 Budget Unsustainable

July 11, 2024

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) issued the following statement regarding his “no” vote on the 2024-25 state budget, which passed largely along party lines in the House.

“The budget passed today is set to spend nearly $48 billion. That’s a $2.7 billion increase over the current fiscal year. Although I think the Republican-held majority in the Senate negotiated the best they could with the Democrat-led House and Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro, the final spend number was too high for me, in good conscience, to vote yes.

“I made a commitment to the people I represent to be fiscally prudent with their tax dollars, and this budget sets us up for increased government spending that will drain the state’s reserve funds and bring about tax increases in the years ahead. It is simply unsustainable.”
