Rigby to Host Flag Disposal Ceremony
June 27, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) will be hosting an American flag disposal ceremony on July 6, at 11 a.m., at his Johnstown district office, located at 1340 Franklin St. Rigby’s office has been collecting, and will continue to collect, worn and tattered flags for the event.
On the day of the event, Rigby’s office will put on an educational ceremony about how to properly destroy worn flags. Attendees will learn about the history and symbolism of the American flag as well as how to dispose of one correctly.
“According to the United States Flag Code, a tattered flag should be taken down and replaced. Many people don’t know how to properly dispose of them, and so they continue to let tattered flags fly,” said Rigby. “This collection effort gives them an opportunity to discard their flags in a dignified way.”
Flags can be dropped off at Rigby’s Johnstown district office, located at 1340 Franklin St. in Johnstown, or his Sidman office, located at 125 Mary Drive, Suite B, in Sidman.
